The best small-form-factor gaming PC under $2,000

Checked October 2026

The short answer: under $2,000, aim for a 1440p machine. That means a graphics card in the RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB to RTX 5070 or Radeon RX 9060 XT 16 GB to RX 9070 range, a current six-core processor, 16 to 32 GB of DDR5 and a 1 TB NVMe drive, in a case of about 10 to 20 litres. With graphics card and memory prices where they are in late 2026, $2,000 buys a strong 1440p machine; 4K at high settings in demanding games generally needs an RTX 5070 Ti or RX 9070 XT class card, which takes the total past $2,000.

What matters in a small case

Small cases trade room for size, so four things decide whether a build works. The graphics card has to fit the case’s length, height and thickness limits (check any pair on Will it fit). The CPU cooler has to clear the side panel. The power supply is usually SFX, smaller and pricier than ATX. And airflow is planned, not assumed: a 20-litre case with a good layout can run as cool as a mid-tower.

Your options

Build it yourselfand you save the assembly and the builder’s margin, usually a few hundred dollars at this price, in exchange for doing the fit checks and the cable routing yourself. Buy a mid-tower prebuilt and you get the most performance per dollar, in a case two to four times the size. Buy a built-to-order small PC and you pay for someone else to do the small-case work, test it and stand behind it.

Questions

Can you get 1440p gaming in a small PC under $2,000?
Yes. An RTX 5060 Ti 16 GB, RTX 5070, RX 9060 XT 16 GB or RX 9070 class card in a 10 to 20 litre case handles 1440p well; demanding games at 4K need a faster card than that budget usually allows.
Do small form factor PCs run hotter?
Not necessarily. A well-laid-out small case with the right cooler and fan setup can run as cool as a mid-tower; the risk is a card or cooler that only just fits and starves for air.
Is it cheaper to build a small PC yourself?
Usually by a few hundred dollars at this price, because you skip the assembly and the builder's margin. You also take on the fit checks, cable routing and any troubleshooting.
