Privacy Policy
Last updated July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains what Respec (“we,” “us”) collects when you use our website and services (the “Service”), how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. By using the Service, you agree to this Policy.
Information we collect
- Account: your email address, a hashed password, and the display name you choose.
- Approximate location: if you set a location, we store a city/ZIP label and an approximate point (latitude/ longitude). We deliberately round coordinates to about one kilometer before storing them, so we do not keep, and never show others, your exact address or precise position. Location powers “local” / distance browsing only.
- Listings & verification: the details and photos you upload (we strip image metadata such as EXIF on upload), condition claims, and any verification proof you submit.
- Messages: the content of messages you send to other users through the Service.
- Requests and seller leads: the contact email and PC, budget, location-area, timing, and note details you choose to provide when you request a PC or tell us about one you may want to sell.
- Build orders: your selected configuration, name, email, optional phone number, fulfillment choice, order totals, payment status, and shipping details when you choose delivery. Stripe collects and processes card details; Respec does not receive or store your full card number.
- First-party funnel analytics: a random identifier that lasts only for the current browser tab, an allowlisted event name, the page path, an optional public listing ID, referring domain, UTM source, medium, and campaign values, a broad device class (mobile, tablet, desktop, or unknown), and the event time. Allowed events cover visits to key pages and steps such as starting or completing signup, messaging, PC requests, seller leads, listing submission, and recorded deals.
- Technical: basic logs needed to operate and secure the Service (such as IP address and request timing).
How we use it
- to accept, build, document, ship, and support first-party PC orders;
- to operate the marketplace: show listings, enable messaging, match PC requests, follow up with seller leads, and provide local/distance browsing;
- to review listings and maintain trust and safety;
- to send essential transactional email, including password resets and first-message or unread-reply notifications;
- to understand which outreach and marketplace steps lead to requests, listings, conversations, and deals so we can improve the Service;
- to secure the Service, prevent abuse and fraud, and comply with law.
How we share it
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers that help us run the Service, for example our payment processor (Stripe) for secure checkout and payment, our email provider (Resend) for transactional mail, the map/tile and geocoding providers (OpenStreetMap/CARTO) used to render maps, and our hosting provider. Other users can see your public profile, your display name, your listings, your approximate area, and the messages you send them. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect rights and safety.
Your approximate location, specifically
Your saved location is only ever stored and shown as an approximate area (rounded to ~1 km and, for listings, drawn as a general radius). Your exact location is never stored or displayed. You can change or remove your location at any time in your account settings.
Retention and your choices
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to operate the Service, resolve disputes, and meet legal obligations, including tax, accounting, fraud prevention, fulfillment, and warranty records for completed orders. First-party funnel events are automatically removed after 180 days. Closed, accountless PC requests and seller leads are removed after 365 days; claimed records may remain with the associated account and marketplace history. You can edit your profile and location at any time. To request access to, or deletion of, your account and associated data, email hello@respecstore.com and we will act on your request as required by applicable law.
We send essential service email, including password and email-change links and notifications when another user first messages you or replies while a conversation is unread. Reply notifications are limited so one active conversation does not generate an email for every message. If we ever send non-essential or promotional email, it will include a way to unsubscribe, and we will honor your choice.
Cookies and sessions
We use secure session cookies to keep users and administrators signed in. For first-party funnel analytics, we use browser session storage to keep a random identifier and a small list of pages already counted for that tab. It clears when the tab session ends. Funnel analytics do not store raw IP addresses, full user-agent strings, names, email addresses, form text, or message bodies, and we do not use advertising IDs or third-party advertising cookies.
Children
The Service is for adults. It is not directed to anyone under 18, and we do not knowingly collect information from minors.
Changes & contact
We may update this Policy; we will update the “Last updated” date when we do. Questions or requests? Email hello@respecstore.com. See also our Terms of Service.
