Build Order Terms
Last updated Draft, not yet published
Draft, not in force
Respec is not accepting online payment for builds yet, so these terms do not govern anything. Nothing on this page is an offer, and no order can be placed against it. Send a build inquiry and we’ll confirm price, timeline, and terms in writing before anything is agreed.
These Build Order Terms govern the purchase of a first-party PC that Respec configures, assembles, tests, and sells. They apply in addition to the general Terms of Service; where the two conflict for a build order, these terms control. Sales of used PCs listed by other people on the marketplace are not covered here.
1. Order acceptance and pricing
Prices shown on a build page are recomputed on our server from the current parts catalog at the moment you check out; the price you accept in Stripe is the price that governs. Submitting payment places an offer. The order is accepted when we send an order confirmation, and we may decline an order (for example, for a pricing error, a parts shortage, or suspected fraud), in which case any authorized amount is released or refunded in full.
Lead time. We start your build once payment has cleared and you have approved the final parts list. Typical time from that point to ready-to-ship or ready-for-pickup is 5 to 8 business days, and the estimate for each machine is shown on its own product page; some configurations take longer and say so there.
Lead times are estimates, not guarantees. A supplier delay, a part that arrives faulty, or a component that fails our testing can extend them. If your build will take more than five business days longer than estimated, we will tell you, and you may cancel for a full refund at that point, whatever stage the build has reached.
2. Payment and tax
Payment is processed by Stripe. Respec never receives your full card number. Applicable sales tax is calculated by Stripe from your address and shown before you pay. Payment is due in full at checkout. Monthly financing through Klarna, where shown at checkout, is provided by Klarna under its own terms; Respec is paid in full either way, and these Build Order Terms apply the same. We do not offer deposits or invoicing.
3. Changing or cancelling an order
Every Respec PC is assembled to your configuration, so cancellation rights narrow once we start work.
- Before we order your parts: cancel for a full refund, no fee, any time. If we have not yet spent money on your build, you get all of yours back.
- After parts are ordered, before assembly begins: full refund, less the cost of any component we cannot return to our supplier. We will tell you that figure before you decide.
- After assembly begins, before shipment or pickup: you may still cancel, with the same 15% restocking fee as a return; the machine is built to your configuration and cannot be sold as new.
- Configuration changes: free before your parts are ordered. After that we will change anything not yet fitted, and the price difference is settled either way: you pay it, or we refund it. Once testing has started the configuration is fixed.
To request a cancellation or change, email hello@respecstore.com with your order number. Timing is measured from when we receive that email.
4. Returns and refunds
This section covers a change of mind on a working PC. A PC that arrives damaged, or does not work as sold, is not a return. That is a warranty claim under section 7, where there is no restocking fee and, for the first 30 days, we pay shipping in both directions. Nothing in this section applies to it.
- Return window: 14 days from delivery, or from pickup. Email us within that window to start a return; the date we receive your email is the date that counts.
- Condition: the PC must come back in its original packaging, undamaged, with every accessory and cable it shipped with. We inspect on arrival.
- Restocking fee: 15% of the price of the PC. Your machine was assembled to your configuration and cannot be sold again as new; this covers the labour and the drop in value.
- Return shipping: paid by you. Any tracked carrier service is fine; insurance is optional but sensible, because the PC must arrive back undamaged to qualify for the refund. We will tell you how to pack it.
- Refund: to the original payment method within 10 business days of the PC arriving and passing inspection.
The shipping charge on your original order is not refundable; that service was already performed. Activated operating system licences and any custom or special-order part are not returnable, and their cost is deducted from the refund.
A warranty claim is resolved by repair or replacement under section 7, not by refund, and damage inconsistent with a component defect is assessed under that section’s exclusions. A fault is diagnosed against the tested, documented state your machine shipped in. Neither route around this section’s conditions exists: a broken machine gets fixed, and a change of mind follows the terms above.
Nothing here limits a right you have under consumer protection law that cannot be waived.
5. Nationwide shipping
Shipping is a flat rate shown before payment and charged as a separate line in Stripe. We ship to street addresses in the contiguous 48 United States; we do not ship to Alaska, Hawaii, US territories, PO boxes, freight forwarders, or outside the United States. An order placed with such an address is declined and refunded in full, or quoted separately by email if you ask.
A PC damaged or lost in transit is our problem, not yours. Whatever we do or do not recover from the carrier, a machine that arrives damaged is a warranty claim under section 7: we repair or replace it and pay shipping both ways.
- Carrier: UPS, FedEx or USPS, chosen by us for the route, always tracked and with signature required on delivery. You get the tracking number when the machine ships.
- Risk of loss passes on delivery, not when we hand the box to the carrier. Until it reaches you, it is ours.
- Report damage or a missing shipment within 14 days of the delivery date. Photograph the outer box and the machine before handling it further and email those photos with your order number; they are what any carrier claim depends on, and far easier to take than to recreate. Reporting late does not cost you your warranty: a faulty machine is still covered under section 7. The 14 days is what lets us pursue the carrier as well.
- Refused, undeliverable or unclaimed shipments are treated as a return: refunded less the 15% restocking fee and less the actual cost of getting the machine back to us.
Inspect the outer box before accepting delivery. A dented or crushed carton is worth photographing even if the machine turns out to be fine.
6. Chicago local pickup
Local pickup is free and by appointment only. After your order is accepted we contact you to schedule a time and confirm the pickup location; the address is not published.
- Where and when: Chicago, by appointment. Monday and Friday evenings, and weekends during the day. We send the exact address once your order is confirmed and a time is agreed; it is not published, for the obvious reason that finished machines are here.
- Bring photo identification matching the name on the order, and the order number. We do not hand over a machine without both.
- Someone else can collect for you if you email us their name in advance from the address on the order. They bring their own photo ID and the order number.
- We hold a finished build for 14 days from the day we tell you it is ready. If we have not heard from you we will keep trying for another 14 days, after which the order is cancelled and refunded less the 15% restocking fee. There are no storage charges.
You are welcome to power the PC on and inspect it at pickup. Risk of loss passes to you when the PC leaves our hands.
7. Written warranty
Respec warrants that your PC will be free from defects in workmanship and that its parts will function as sold, on the terms below. This is the complete written warranty for a Respec build and replaces any general disclaimer in the Terms of Service for these orders.
- Period:one year of parts and labour from delivery or pickup, included with every build. Respec does not sell an extended parts warranty; component manufacturers’ own warranties often run longer than ours and are yours to claim directly, and we will help you claim them.
- What is covered: a component that fails in normal use, and any fault in the way we assembled, cooled, wired, or configured the machine, including the operating system installation we performed.
- First 30 days: if the PC arrives dead, or fails within 30 days of delivery or pickup, we replace or repair it and pay shipping in both directions. Tell us within 30 days.
- Days 31 to 365: you send the PC to us, we repair it and send it back at our cost. We handle any manufacturer RMA, fit the replacement part, and charge you nothing for the part or the labour.
- After the first year: the warranty ends. We will still repair the machine we built, and we will quote you for parts and labour before any work starts.
- Support that outlasts the warranty. Email us about your machine at any age, for as long as Respec is in business, and you will reach the person who built it. Diagnosing a fault, advising on an upgrade, walking through a BIOS setting.
- Our remedy: repair, or replacement of the failed component, at our option. If we cannot repair the PC in a reasonable time we will replace it or refund it.
- Upgrading it yourself: allowed, and it does not void this warranty. Opening the case is not a problem. But damage caused by work you or a third party carried out is not covered, and neither is a part you fitted yourself; that part is covered by whoever sold it.
- Transfer: this warranty applies to the original owner and does not transfer with the machine.
What this warranty does not cover:
- Accidental damage, drops, liquid, or damage in transit after the PC has left us in good order
- Damage from flood, fire, lightning, power surge, or improper electrical supply
- Misuse, neglect, improper installation, or improper repacking for return shipping
- Overclocking, undervolting, or running components outside their manufacturer’s specification
- Software you installed, configuration you changed, malware, and any operating system other than the one we installed
- Service or modification carried out by anyone other than Respec, where that work caused the fault
- Cosmetic wear that does not affect how the machine works
- Peripherals and accessories we did not supply
- Data loss or recovery. Back up your data before sending a PC for service; we may need to replace the drive or reinstall the system
Conditions. This warranty applies to PCs bought from Respec and operating in the United States, in normal use. It runs from delivery or pickup, not from purchase. Any implied warranty that applies to your purchase is limited to the same one-year period, to the extent your state allows that limit; some states do not allow limits on how long an implied warranty lasts, so this may not apply to you.
Making a claim. Email hello@respecstore.com with your order number and a description of the fault. We will usually ask you to try one or two things first, since a fault we can fix over email is faster for you than a fault we fix on the bench. If the PC needs to come back we will tell you how to pack it and, in the first 30 days, send you a prepaid label.
8. Contact and disputes
Please contact us before disputing a charge; most problems are faster to fix directly. Email hello@respecstore.com with your order number. Disputes not resolved that way are governed by the dispute and governing-law provisions of the Terms of Service. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have under applicable consumer protection law that cannot be waived.
9. Version
The version of these terms in effect when you paid is recorded on your order and is the version that governs it. We may change these terms for future orders; a change never applies retroactively to an order already accepted.
